Idea of the App

Yeah, we work with NASA, too — no big deal. Before landing, the Lander Vision System (LVS) sensor detects the position fix required to land between hazards, dodging disaster successfully. Mars 2020 continues to use The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) system.

It was a groundbreaking project for Mars 2020. Its goal was to search for evidence of ancient life. Instead, it became the first orbiter to collect and store Martian surface samples, which NASA scientists can use on future missions.

Challenges

As part of the squad developing the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the Mars 2020 Rover's Lander Vision System, our tech astronauts wrote a fully modular and extensible hardware testing platform in Python at NASA JPL.

NASA employed our system in 2019 field tests in Death Valley. Our rocket scientists also reconfigured the Lander Vision System (LVS) Spacecraft Simulator hardware, enhancing its functionality in various ways.
